If you only look at these quantitative figures, it would lead one to conclude that the reforms have been successful. However, if you look at the life of the average, rural Kenyan, little has changed. Most of their income is spent on food and most still live in houses of wood and mud with thatched roofs. Many still report wide-spread corruption in the government and a mistrust of security forces. They do have better opportunities for employment. The ability to own their own land has been a tremendous help in developing the opportunity to participate actively in the economy.
