Another part that I noticed was in the scene where Mercutio was insulting Tybalt, right before they fought in the streets of Verona. Mercutio had called Tybalt "prince of cats" since Tybalt was an ordinary name for house cats at that time. I think that it would be all right to keep this part, however you might want to think about changing Tybalt's name to something that is more common for cats today like Felix or even better, Whiskers, however that might not be a suitable name for a normal person. I think that in making these changes in your story, that it would make it much easier to read for people today, and I think that it might make school students who have to read it, like it even more. You might even want to think about changing the names of the characters to something more modern, or even something just completely stupid so it would appeal to people even more. Mexico`s Megalopolis` by Jonathan Kandell

Nowadays, the city of Mexico is one of the largest megalopolises, with enourmopus population density and industrialization rates. Jonathan Kandell in his book ‘I Saw a City Invincible’ provides a wonderful historical excurse in terms of urban, technological and social development in the city. The issue of migration was particularly obvious between the 1940s and the 1970s, when the inhabitants of small towns and rural areas suddenly began to move into the city, searching for their fortunes at factories and plants. As Kandell notes, â€Å"Factories, commerce, and service jobs sucked in hordes of rural migrants who swelled Mexico City’s population from 1. 5 million in 1940 to 8. 5 million in 1970† (Kandell, p. 183). Furthermore, the author describes the stuggle between time-honored Latin American values and globalization trends, brought by the country’s nearest neighbor, the United States. The phenomenon of tourist infrastructure also emerged under American influence: the new cafes and traditional cuisine restaurants were being adjusted to ‘American demands’ and standards (p. 184). In sociopolitical meaning, the country in that period was literally obsessed with social radical views: â€Å"Revolutionary slogans continued to exalt the ideals of land for the rural dispossessed, living wages for the proletariat, and a determinant voice for the state of economic affairs† (ibid). The ambitiousness of Mexican politicians enjoyed stable and sustainable growth between the 1940s and the 1970s, parallel to the growth of ordinary Mexicans’ aspirations, as increasingly more citizens sought rapid career and social protection in the capital. In reality, the needs of majorities were satisfied: there was a plenty of work, due to the development of service and mass-communications spheres, in which females, traditionally marginalized as reliable employees, got an opportunity to find themselves. Due to the fact that by the 1960s, the average Mexican urban family contained no unemployed members (except children), household incomes were growing proportionally to the overall economic and political progress. Nevertheless, the metropolis also experienced certain problems, such as housing crisis: â€Å"In the 1940s and 1950s most migrants settled first in the old downtown tenements [the so-called’ vecindadez] abandoned generations before by the middle class† (p. 185). These quarters seemed completely distinct dimension that in the course of time obtained a kind of autonomy, as such miniature settlements had their local factories, shopping malls, saloons and bars and, certainly, their own markets, which appeared the centers of social life, peculiar ‘offspring’ of Ancient Roman forum or Greek agora. Kandall provides a description of the typical vecindad: â€Å"†¦Tepito was now populated mainly by artisans, vendors, factory laborers, unskilled workers, waiters, office clerks, messengers and porters†, who earned about $20 per month (p. 85). Notwithstanding the rapid economic development, the migrants’ well-being had been very limited up to the 1960s: due to the fact that flat rent was unjustifiably high, the families huddled together in small windowless apartments and could afford meet only once a week. Another apparent trend in urban development was the gradual growth of small enterprises, to which local governments de legated their responsibilities for food, health facilities and education. Nevertheless, the main institutions remained bureaucratic and centralized, so private capital hadn’t enjoyed considerable flow until the end of the 1970s. Due to the fact that the factories of Mexico City were controlled by local authorities, so the working-class suffered from poverty and lack of dwelling conveniences: â€Å"[only] In 1977 Jaras’ dwelling [situated in the typical working-class ‘reservation’] was legally connected to the municipal electricity grid and water system† (p. 90). The present-day ecological catastrophe, notable in Mexico City, is rooted in the negligence, demonstrated by government as well as local enterprises: â€Å"The primitive recycling of garbage, often carried out illegally by small businesses that are unsupervised by the municipal authorities, poses serious health hazards to the population at large† (p. 192). The author notes that the ‘garbage problem’ had remained extremely sharp up to the end of the 1980s. In addition, Kandall addresses the progress of charity and human services: affluent urban entrepreneurs contributed to the development of local communities in the best Mexican traditions: ‘He sponsored local soccer teams, supplied the uniforms and built for playing fields, which he named Rafael Sports center† (p. 194). On Gutierez’ example the author shows businessmen’s [caciques] bourgeois ambitions: after the establishment of the enterprise, they normally tried to penetrate into the city’s or national political arena, so their charity was nothing more than well-planned PR. Human services, although popular in Mexican culture, were institutionalized only in the 1970s, since the religious traditions prescribed that urban dwellers helped their neighbors and compatriots on the voluntary basis, Mexican cultural collectivism was extremely noticeable in the working-class quarters. With beginning of the 1980s, the country was paralyzed by environmental accidents like earthquakes, but the government appeared incapable of handling the resulting problems in a proper way: â€Å"The small parties of left and right were unable to claim the loyalty of potential dissidents†, whereas the young volunteers seemed the major rescuers, which means, Mexican urban citizens were always ready to support each other, and in spite of the pessimistic ending of the article: â€Å"Throughout its existence the city has been scourged by war, social upheaval. Plague, flood, earthquake† (p. 201), its overall context shows that social problems and emergencies haven’t managed to separate the city dwellers, but rather have united them and created a powerful humanistic basis for the reinforcement of Mexico City.

These images, overlaid upon a sultry â€Å"Oooh, ah, la la la† musical score, comprise a January 2011 television commercial from The Ladders.   It seems some effort was put into infusing this marketing piece with†¦Ã‚   ummm†¦Ã‚   political correctness?   The video is replete with intimations of gay relationships, interracial relationships, and Asian and Black successful careerists. But what’s politically correct about people seeking employment through sex appeal, regardless of how ridiculous it clearly is? I get it.   It’s a metaphor and it’s meant to be outrageous.   Come to The Ladders and we’ll create an â€Å"irresistible† image that will get you the job of your dreams.   But why would anyone want to work with a company that resorts to wacky sexual innuendo to gain clients who are climbing the corporate ladder? I also get that social media has blurred the distinction between private and public lives, and that employers might be able to view a prospect’s â€Å"relationship status† through a quick Facebook search.   Maybe sex and job search are no longer so far removed from each other as I would like to think.   Perhaps that’s a question for The Ladders.   I sent them a trackback so maybe theyll respond here. In many studies it is shown that smoking habbit is also related to mental condition. I would like to find that students who smoke, whats their perspectives for smoking. To observe does smoking affects the general health of a person. I would like to find out whether the students who smoke have some health problem or not. Are they having any health problem after they starts smoking? Introduction Smoking is to inhale smoke of burning tobacco in the form of cigarettes, cigars etc. Some people occasionally smoke to relief their stress but smoking, as a habit is a physical addiction. Habitual smoking is also called psychological addiction by health experts. In the whole world, almost in every nation there is a warning written on every packet of cigarette that it is injurious to health. In spite of that lot of people find smoking is quite attractive. In UK approximately 120,000 people died every year due to smoking. Smoking is the major reason for sickness and early deaths. On an average non smokers live 10 yrs more than the smokers (webarchieve.nationalarchives.govt.uk.).So a smoker dies 10 yrs early as compare to a person who never smoke in his life. Tobacco contains more than 4000 chemicals, 69 of which known to produce cancer.90% lung cancer deaths are due to smoking. Main three components of tobacco are-nicotine, carbon monoxide and tar. All three of them cause diseases. Nic otine absorbs in blood stream and effected brain in 10 seconds. If a person is habitual smoker, whenever the level of nicotine drops in blood, withdrawal symptoms like craving, anxiety, restlessness, headaches arises. These are relieved when the person smokes. Thats why person smokes regularly to keep these symptoms away. Otherwise the smoker becomes anxious and irritable because of the withdrawal effect of nicotine. Tar contains many contents which produce cancer. Tar contains irritants which damage the lungs which are a major vital organ of human body; by constricting the bronchioles and destroying the cilias which protect lungs from dirt and other infections. Smokers do not sit long hours for doing their work, they need a cigarette break. With this, they feel relaxed and energetic to do their work. People usually smoke at different times in a day .Smokers thought the situations which are not positive; they made them less stressful with smoking a cigarette. Smokers feel pleasure i n smoking. But smoking produce critical health risks for smokers and the persons surrounding them. Because the family members and friends of a smoker who breathe second hand smoke also harm their general health. In this proposal we discuss about the smoking and its perceptions among university students. We discuss the facts that why students attract towards smoking. Does smoking really help to reduce the stress in students? Does smoking affect their general health? These all we discuss in our research proposal. Literature Review According to Stephen J. Heishman (1999), the 3 factors which influences smoking or are influenced by smoking habit, are stress, weight gain and performance. Addiction of nicotine is very complex process which includes biological, psychological and other factors also. If nicotine addicted person withhold nicotine, his attentional and cognitive abilities would be diminished, but these are reversed if nicotine is given to that person. In stress, smoking is eminent, but there is not any specified evidence that smoking reduces stress. In average the weight of smokers is 3-4kgs less than peoples who dont smoke and after quitting smoking weight gain is also in same manner. According to Carol Brown (2004) the use of tobacco is high in people having mental health problems. Use of tobacco is one of the preventable causes of bad health and early deaths in Scotland. According to Scottish Executive (2000), nearly 13,000 persons died each year from diseases occurs due to tobacco like diseases of heart and cancers of different parts of body (Callum, 1998).According to ASH Scotland (2004), there are many critical health risks related to passive smoking. In Scotland, sickness related to smoking costs the National Health Service around  £ 200 million per year. According to McNeill (2001), smoking risk is more among persons with mental health problems as compare to other people. According to Meltzer et al. (1996), surveys shows smoking rates were higher in people having mental problems like in people suffering from psychosis than general population. According to Wendy Wang and Paul Taylor(April8,2008),when smokers asked for their habit of smoking they usually say ,it relives our stress, but 50% of them experience stress frequently as compare to others who never smoke or smoke once and now quits. The survey also shows that smokers are more sad and unhealthy as compare to non smokers or persons who quit smoking.45% of smokers said that they are healthy as this percentage was63%in non smokers and little less in former smokers. Six out of ten current smokers satisfied with their family life whereas this ratio was seven in ten in non smokers. Satisfaction in job is also low in current smokers. According to Andy C Parrott (1999), smokers oftentimes say that smoking helps to relieve their stress whereas the level of stress is quite more in smokers. Dependency on nicotine looks as to modify stress. This resulted irregular mood pattern shown by smokers, during smoking they have good moods and bad otherwise when not smoking. The smokers require nicotine for feeling normal. According to Piasecki (2006) addiction rate is very high in tobacco smoking. Likewise withdrawal of nicotine, tonic desire is basic reason for ex-smokers, who were struggling to maintain abstinence. If a person strike again and again with high stress levels his smoking habbit also raised(Steptoe,et al. ,1996) and stressful activities were essential risk factors for chances of relapse in former smokers(Cohen and Lichtenstein,1990;Mckee,et al.,2003).Study in human laboratories shows that exposure to stress or imagination of provoked markers raises the desire of smoking in smokers who are habitual(Perkins and Grobe,1992;Erblich,et al.,2003). According to American Journal of health behaviour (2006) vol.30 (3), the usage of tobacco in US is highest in adults between 18-24 yrs of age. Most of them are college students. Use of cigarette smoking increased by 28% in the year between 1993-1997. Around 50% of college students tried smoking within that previous year and around 1/3rd are using tobacco currently. Approximately 70% of students of colleges tried tobacco in their life. A recently done study of 224 students of college showed the tendency to take risk, depression, self efficacy were decisive of smoking behaviour. Other study of 636 adult students shows that the college students using tobacco shows lower physical activities and raised depression symptoms as compare to non smokers. Moreover young adults who are in depression use tobacco for improvement in their mood. According to Wegner, Schneider, Carter and White (1987) numerous studies shows inhibiting negative or indifferent thoughts having a rebound effect. So if a person suppresses a single thought he may think about, that thought comes in his mind more quickly. For example people usually attempt to discontinue smoking by avoiding thinking about smoking. Whereas this strategy rises his thoughts of smoking and makes quitting difficult. According to Salkovskis and Reynolds (1994) study, in which contestants decrease or give up smoking by observing their thoughts about smoking. The study shows suppression, raised thoughts of smoking comparison to monitoring. However these results show that thoughts suppression made quitting much challenging. But in this study they were not said that suppression raises smoking. According to Heath Martin (1993); Chassin et al. (1994, 1996) ,Kendler et al.(1999) so many studies done in past two decades suggested that people with the history of smoking in their close relatives were continual smokers than other ones who had no history in their family. Several studies showed that persistent smoking habbit definitely had heritable element. For e.g. Heath Martin (1993) found heritability approximately of 0.53, whereas Kendler et al. (1999) found it as 0.72. These studies show the value of environmental and hereditary factors in habbit of persistent smoking but this did not clarify mechanism that shows relationship of family history and persistence. Hypotheses Smokers thought that smoking reduce stress. Smoking plays a chief role in mood elevation of a person. Generally if the parents smoke, their adult children are more attract towards smoking habit. The family members and friends of a smoker, who breathe the secondhand smoke, also harm their general health. Method Design: This is a Quantitative study of smoking habit and its perceptions among the university students. It is in the form of questionnaire. Dependent Variable: Stress, Psychological status Independent Variable: Age, Gender, smoking habit Participants: The participants are mostly the students of University of Bedfordshire who belongs to different religions and different nations. There will be 25 participants, in which 20 would be male participants and 5 would be female participants. The age of the participants is between 20-40yrs. Procedure: Each student gives a full questionnaire in which options are there and they have to tick the best option according to their choice and they are requested to give answers wisely. Questionnaire is given to each participant personally and told him or her the purpose of test. Before the participants fill the questionnaire, total information regarding the purpose of study and other related information will be given to each participant. This information is also given to the participants that this data remains confidential. This collected data will be used only for study and research purposes and not given to any other organization. After the general introduction regarding name gender etc. the participants asked to select the category of smoking-smoking in the present time, or smoking in the past years and now quitted. Then they start the main Questionnaire. Data analysis The data is collected from students of University of Bedfordshire and analyzed by SSPS. Either a significant relation exists in between the variables is studied by ANOVA. Ethical Consideration The university has accepted the request of survey in their campus. The participants are clearly mentioned about data protection and told them that this data will be used for study and research purpose only. The participants are clearly mentioned that they are free to ask any type of question before the data collection. Reality vs. Fantasy: Comparing Two Worlds in Two Fantasy Novels

Fantasy novels help readers step outside their everyday world for a while to consider a subject from a different point of view. Like the stories in C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, both novels try to unite two entirely separate worlds, the primary one which is similar to our real world and the other one that has magical beings that thrive within it. By presenting the differences of real and fantasy worlds, people learn something about what it means to be a human being, living with reality and imagination. As these books describe magic that often appear impossible and wondrous to ordinary people, the commonality of their quests or struggles in real life becomes the strands that connect the readers to these make-belief worlds. As good and evil battle, often the central plot of contemporary fantasy novels, these fantasy tales can be set in our own everyday world or in a â€Å"secondary† world somewhat like our own. By identifying between the â€Å"real world† and the â€Å"fantasy world†, people exercise their creative imagination as they keep in touch with those feelings and attitudes of early childhood in order to realize their creative potential. It is this non-literal mode of thinking, so prevalent during early childhood that balances and complements literal thinking. Both being fantasy novels, this article will try to assess these â€Å"strands† of commonality between the fantasy novels The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and how the laws that govern in the â€Å"fantasy† worlds become realistic as the writers try to rationalize these worlds and convince their readers to enjoy reading their stories.. Similarities in Two Fantasies The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe effectively used traditional methods of answering the questions as they come, this method of enthralling readers empower them to discover about things in the parallel world. As the story unfolds, immediately or slowly as needed, the author C.S. Lewis began the answering of every question. For instance, the first mention of the name â€Å"Narnia† created such questions about what kind of world is it. Tumnus the Faun asks Lucy how she came into Narnia, and Lucy asks what the reader also wants to know: â€Å"Narnia? What's that?† Tumnus replies, â€Å"This is the land of Narnia, †¦ where we are now; all that lies between the lamp-post and the great castle of Cair Paravel on the eastern sea† (LWW, 9). The reader will want and need to know more, of course, but for now he or she has been supplied the necessary basic information and given adequate orientation. Another important revelation in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, when it is read first, is the buildup to the introduction of Aslan. The first reference to Aslan is by Mr. Beaver, when he meets the children in the woods: â€Å"They say Aslan is on the move—perhaps has already landed.† These words create a gap for the Pevensie children and—presumably—for the reader: â€Å"None of the children knew who Aslan was any more than you do; but the moment the Beaver had spoken these words everyone felt quite different† (LWW, 54). Similarly, in Harry Potter, although the Dursleys try to intercept the letters delivered by strange owls, readers are enthralled to ask what those letters for? When Hagrid takes Harry away to a small island to escape, Harry learns the truth about his parents and introduces him to the magical world. Harry also learns of Lord Voldemort and his murder of Harry’s parents, as well as Voldemort’s lingering reputation despite being inactive (even a large and strong individual like Hagrid refuses to speak his name). As Rowling introduces the secondary world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, nothing in the Hogwarts world could be the same as Harry’s world with the Dursleys: There were a hundred and forty-two staircases at Hogwarts: wide, sweeping ones; narrow, rickety ones; some that led somewhere different on a Friday; some with a vanishing step halfway up that you had to remember to jump. Then there were doors that wouldn't open unless you asked politely, or tickled them in exactly the right place, and doors that weren't really doors at all, but solid walls just pretending. It was very hard to remember where anything was, because it all seemed to move around a lot. The people in the portraits kept going to visit each other, and Harry was sure the coats of armor could walk (HPAPS, 132). Like the real world, the secondary parallel worlds had their own rules that should be followed. While Narnia is based on the pretense that animals have intelligence and speech (what child hasn't wished animals could talk or pretended that they could?), the Harry Potter books pretend that magical powers are real and that wizards and witches possessing those powers really exist. In Narnia, one of the children Edmund fell under the spell of the White Witch. However, her power is failing and the other children reach for Aslan, and a penitent Edmund is rescued just as the witch is about to kill him. Calling for a truce, the witch demands that Edmund be returned to her, as an ancient law gives her possession of all traitors. Aslan, acknowledging the law, offers himself in Edmund’s place and the witch accepts. In connection, Hogwarts is set like a school, the first-year students are limited to do some complex magical spells and they are assigned to houses or dormitories by sitting on a stool and putting on a singing hat that magically reads their thoughts and desires and â€Å"sorts† them accordingly: if the students will be assigned to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin (HPAPS, 118). Making and Breaking Rules In both stories, magic transformed into a literary device that helps the reader transcend the ordinary and the familiar and enter an extraordinary and unfamiliar â€Å"other† world. In both Hogwarts and Narnia, readers are invited to suspend belief in the natural and believe instead in the supernatural. For example, the natural laws of gravity are defied in Harry Potter, for example, where people can fly using brooms. The natural laws of time and chronology are suspended in Narnia, where the Pevensie children spend years in Narnia, while only a few minutes go by on the other side of the wardrobe in England. If natural laws are broken or suspended, however, there are spiritual laws that never change no matter what world the children are in. Like all rules in the real world, there is breaking of these rules that become a central part of the tradition of most fantasy stories—much of the tension generated in the stories comes from whether the characters will get away with what they have done. In the real world, people may not reinforce the kind of behavior. Fantasy stories, like what happened to Harry and the Pevensie children, consequences of breaking rules are shown though they do not moralize about them; many of the difficulties characters encounter are created by, or complicated by, untruths or law breaking (Griesinger, 2002). Conclusion Although there are few accusations that stories about magic could expose young children to the world of occult, people could delineate responsible literary approach to The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe and Harry Potter as understood in the context of a fantasy world that is similar to reality world. This exemplified in the lessons that Harry learns from Dumbledore and in Hogwarts School and the choices he has to make to become a wise wizard, while the Pevensie children in Narnia learned to realize how the consequences of Edmund's treachery. In conclusion, The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe and Harry Potter succeeded in making parallel attempts to enact the difference between the â€Å"real† from the â€Å"fantasy† world. Both are strengthening to any reader’s imaginations, which the children who read or hear the stories could base their own imagination by relating to what Lewis and Rowling had shared through their stories. Four Freedoms Essay

The poster that I chose to do my analysis on is by Adam Lewin. His art is modern and is representative of current events. He is an illustrator and an art director. He has studied at the Pratt Institute, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and New York University (http://www. thoughtsondemocracy. blogspot. com/ 2009). The poster is representational of what is currently happening in American culture today. Lewin’s poster persuades me not to want to live in the United States anymore. His poster depicts our freedoms being taken away from us. The â€Å"Freedom of Speech† picture persuades me not to want to protest. It conveys to me that if we go out into the streets and exercise our freedom of speech we will be gagged and hauled off to jail. The Police in the poster look menacing and colossal, and the protester looks small and meager. The â€Å"Freedom of Worship† poster persuades me not to tell anyone what religion I am for fear that I may get killed, for not being the right religion. The man looks as though he is lying on a gurney and has been shot dead because he was worshiping to the wrong religion. Lewin’s â€Å"Freedom From Want† reminds me that we should not feed our children McDonald’s. Children know what the golden arches mean before they can even read. The fast food industry has made Americans huge. The little boy in the picture has a super-size coke in front of him, and he looks like he is pointing to get some more food, which he clearly does not need. This persuades me that there is no freedom from want because Americans are gluttons. They want as much as they can possibly acquire to fill them up emotionally. Lastly, â€Å"Freedom From Fear† persuades me not to want to break any laws (running a red light, talking on cell phone while driving) big brother is always watching us especially at every stop light. On the positive side it might make some people feel safe and might deter a criminal from committing a crime. Lewin’s and Rockwell’s posters look completely opposite from each other. Rockwell’s poster is indicative of what the people looked like in the 1940’s (wholesome). It seemed to be a more innocent time, but it wasn’t. Rockwell was painting an ideal instead of reflecting a reality. Whereas, Lewin is doing the opposite, he is reflecting the reality of the current American way of life. However, there are many similarities between the two pictures. In Rockwell’s â€Å"Freedom of Speech† painting it looks as though the people in the painting are giving the man respect and listening to what he has to say. However, I read that these men did not agree with what this man was saying. Therefore, it relates to Lewin’s poster because both these men are being degraded for speaking their minds. Also both men look like they are from the working class. The religion that I saw represented in Rockwell’s â€Å"Freedom of Worship â€Å"is Christianity. Thus the painting failed to represent multiple religions. This relates to Lewin’s poster because in my opinion Lewin’s poster is suggesting that the man in the picture is dead. This suggests that the predominate religion of the 1940’s (Christianity) is dying. practicing one Also people should have the right to practice any religion they want as FDR suggested in his speech. Lewin’s and Rockwell’s â€Å"Freedom FromWant† relate because neither of these scenes are lavish and the food seems to be the focal point. Also, the elderly woman seems to be the one serving everyone and the boy in the picture is pointing as though he is waiting for someone to serve him or give him more food. Although these two pictures look completely different they relate to each other in the same way. They both depict safety and security. When I was a little girl my mother use to tuck me into bed every night and this made me feel safe as the mother and father in the Rockwell painting are doing to their children. The man is holding a paper which tells of the horrors going on overseas. They are protecting their children from the evils of the world and easing their young minds. I think that Lewin’s depiction of the cameras eases the American people’s minds or maybe the powers that be. Surveillance cameras may help catch criminals or even terrorists. The poster, which depicts four separate themes, will be shown to reflect contemporary understandings of democracy and the democratic system in operation. The theme in the upper left hand corner under â€Å"Freedom of Speech† depicts a young man being dragged by two police officers. Although our Constitution guarantee’s freedom of speech, nevertheless the arrest of this young man portrays what occurred recently when the Wall Street protesters gathered peacefully in front of the New York stock exchange, yet they were arrested and thrown in jail for disturbing the peace. Unfortunately this depiction is very true in today’s society. We are constantly informed of suicide bombers in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq who , in the name of religion, strap bomb belts on themselves and blow themselves up in mosques and other places where their co-religionists ( of different sects) are worshiping. It also suggests to me that the practice of one religion in the United States no longer exists. Since there are people from all over the world living in the United States we have an array of different religions. The third image on the bottom left hand corner under â€Å"Freedom of Want† depicts a young man pointing to a half empty glass. This expresses the current division in contemporaneous society of the haves and the have not’s. This young boy seems overweigh and is probably a member of the have not’s. I say this because insufficient funds results in poor eating habits, such as overindulgence of processed foods. The final image on the lower right hand corner under the caption â€Å"Freedom from Fear† depicts an array of surveillance equipment. Thanks to the increased awareness of crime coupled with modern high technology, these surveillance cameras are designed to catch criminals in the act of committing a crime there by resulting in quicker arrests and convictions, and possibly preventing the crime from being committed in the first place. Surveillance cameras which were installed in all entrances to the London underground have effectively prevented a repeat of the 2005 underground bombings. Therefore commuters have no fear using the â€Å"tube† and are thus free from fear, exactly as the artist intended to demonstrate.

Tolland considered it. The Mariana Trench was seven miles down, one of the last truly unexplored regions on the planet. Only a handful of robotic probes had ever ventured that deep, and most had collapsed well before they reached the bottom. The water pressure in the trench was enormous-an astounding eighteen thousand pounds per square inch, as opposed to a mere twenty-four pounds on the ocean's surface. Oceanographers still had very little understanding of the geologic forces at the deepest ocean floor. â€Å"So, this guy Pollock thinks the Mariana Trench can make rocks with chondrulelike features?† â€Å"It's an extremely obscure theory,† Xavia said. â€Å"In fact, it's never even been formally published. I only happened to stumble across Pollock's personal notes on the Web by chance last month when I was doing research on fluid-rock interactions for our upcoming megaplume show. Otherwise, I never would have heard of it.† â€Å"The theory has never been published,† Corky said, â€Å"because it's ridiculous. You need heat to form chondrules. There's no way water pressure could rearrange the crystalline structure of a rock.† â€Å"Pressure,† Xavia fired back, â€Å"happens to be the single biggest contributor to geologic change on our planet. Although heat did play a role in some of earth's metamorphic geology, most metamorphic rocks were formed by extreme pressure. Incredibly, rocks deep in the earth's crust were under so much pressure that they acted more like thick molasses than solid rock, becoming elastic and undergoing chemical changes as they did. Nonetheless, Dr. Pollock's theory still seemed like a stretch. â€Å"Xavia,† Tolland said. â€Å"I've never heard of water pressure alone chemically altering a rock. You're the geologist, what's your take?† â€Å"Well,† she said, flipping through her notes, â€Å"it sounds like water pressure isn't the only factor.† Xavia found a passage and read Pollock's notes verbatim. â€Å"‘Oceanic crust in the Mariana Trench, already under enormous hydrostatic pressurization, can find itself further compressed by tectonic forces from the region's subduction zones.'† Of course, Tolland thought. The Mariana Trench, in addition to being crushed under seven miles of water, was a subduction zone-the compression line where the Pacific and Indian plates moved toward one another and collided. Combined pressures in the trench could be enormous, and because the area was so remote and dangerous to study, if there were chondrules down there, chances of anyone knowing about it were very slim. Xavia kept reading. â€Å"‘Combined hydrostatic and tectonic pressures could potentially force crust into an elastic or semiliquid state, allowing lighter elements to fuse into chondrulelike structures thought to occur only in space.'† Corky rolled his eyes. â€Å"Impossible.† Tolland glanced at Corky. â€Å"Is there any alternative explanation for the chondrules in the rock Dr. Pollock found?† â€Å"Easy,† Corky said. â€Å"Pollock found an actual meteorite. Meteorites fall into the ocean all the time. Pollock would not have suspected it was a meteorite because the fusion crust would have eroded away from years under the water, making it look like a normal rock.† Corky turned to Xavia. â€Å"I don't suppose Pollock had the brains to measure the nickel content, did he?† â€Å"Actually, yes,† Xavia fired back, flipping through the notes again. â€Å"Pollock writes: ‘I was surprised to find the nickel content of the specimen falling within a midrange value not usually associated with terrestrial rocks.'† Tolland and Rachel exchanged startled looks. Xavia continued reading. â€Å"‘Although the quantity of nickel does not fall within the normally acceptable midrange window for meteoritic origin, it is surprisingly close.'† Rachel looked troubled. â€Å"How close? Is there any way this ocean rock could be mistaken for a meteorite?† Xavia shook her head. â€Å"I'm not a chemical petrologist, but as I understand it, there are numerous chemical differences between the rock Pollock found and actual meteorites.† â€Å"What are those differences?† Tolland pressed. Xavia turned her attention to a graph in her notes. â€Å"According to this, one difference is in the chemical structure of the chondrules themselves. It looks like the titanium/zirconium ratios differ. The titanium/ zirconium ratio in the chondrules of the ocean sample showed ultradepleted zirconium.† She looked up. â€Å"Only two parts per million.† â€Å"Two ppm?† Corky blurted. â€Å"Meteorites have thousands of times that!† â€Å"Exactly,† Xavia replied. â€Å"Which is why Pollock thinks his sample's chondrules are not from space.† Tolland leaned over and whispered to Corky, â€Å"Did NASA happen to measure the titanium/zirconium ratio in the Milne rock?† â€Å"Of course not,† Corky sputtered. â€Å"Nobody would ever measure that. It's like looking at a car and measuring the tires' rubber content to confirm you're looking at a car!† Tolland heaved a sigh and looked back at Xavia. â€Å"If we give you a rock sample with chondrules in it, can you run a test to determine whether these inclusions are meteoric chondrules or†¦ one of Pollock's deep ocean compression things?† Xavia shrugged. â€Å"I suppose. The electron microprobe's accuracy should be close enough. What's this all about, anyway?† Tolland turned to Corky. â€Å"Give it to her.† Corky reluctantly pulled the meteorite sample from his pocket and held it out for Xavia. Xavia's brow furrowed as she took the stone disk. She eyed the fusion crust and then the fossil embedded in the rock. â€Å"My God!† she said, her head rocketing upward. â€Å"This isn't part of†¦?† â€Å"Yeah,† Tolland said. â€Å"Unfortunately it is.† 106 Alone in her office, Gabrielle Ashe stood at the window, wondering what to do next. Less than an hour ago, she had left NASA feeling full of excitement to share Chris Harper's PODS fraud with the senator. Now, she wasn't so sure. According to Yolanda, two independent ABC reporters suspected Sexton of taking SFF bribes. Furthermore, Gabrielle had just learned that Sexton actually knew she had snuck into his apartment during the SFF meeting, and yet he had said nothing to her about it? Gabrielle sighed. Her taxi had long since departed, and although she would call another in a few minutes, she knew there was something she had to do first. Am I really going to try this? Gabrielle frowned, knowing she didn't have a choice. She no longer knew whom to trust. Stepping out of her office, she made her way back into the secretarial lobby and into a wide hallway on the opposite side. At the far end she could see the massive oak doors of Sexton's office flanked by two flags-Old Glory on the right and the Delaware flag on the left. His doors, like those of most senate offices in the building, were steel reinforced and secured by conventional keys, an electronic key pad entry, and an alarm system. She knew if she could get inside, even if for only a few minutes, all the answers would be revealed. Moving now toward the heavily secured doors, Gabrielle had no illusions of getting through them. She had other plans. Ten feet from Sexton's office, Gabrielle turned sharply to the right and entered the ladies' room. The fluorescents came on automatically, reflecting harshly off the white tile.
